What is TMS?

TMS is a highly focused therapy for treatment-resistant depression. TMS uses a powerful precisely pulsed magnetic field to stimulate a specific region of the brain that may be under-active in many patients with depression. TMS is a safe and effective treatment. Most TMS patients experience little or no side effects. This is particularly noteworthy in comparison with the side effects which may accompany complex medication regimens or ECT.

Who Can Benefit from TMS?

TMS is FDA approved for the treatment of major depressive disorder that has not responded fully to an adequate trial of antidepressant medication. TMS has also shown promise in the off-label treatment of conditions such as:

  • Anxiety
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
  • Neuropathic Pain
  • Schizophrenia and/or Auditory Hallucinosis
  • Bipolar Depression

Although insurance does not cover TMS for indications other than depression, Boulder Center for TMS has extensive experience treating patients off-label, with many positive outcomes.
